A Farmer's Market

by Alicia Satchfield

Originating as a place for farmers to sell their produce, farmer's markets have become an extremely popular pit-stop for many Americans. Despite a general love for all things fried, most of us can't help but crave fresh fruits and veggies straight from the source. Farmer's markets have charm- we can actually talk to the farmer that grew the vegetables and they are able to tell us what methods they used. Bee keepers come and sell their honey. Bread, flowers, eggs, fruits, vegetables, and even crafts are sold in abundance.

The south, originally known for agriculture, obviously has numerous farmer's markets sprinkled around, particularly in central Florida. Usually operating on weekends, the markets have plenty of items to peruse and purchase!

My suggestions:

Look up directions beforehand.
Allot at least 2 hours, depending on the size of the market (Some are tiny, some huge!)
Bring Cash!

Some local Farmer's markets include those in Apopka, Clermont, Winter Park, Orlando, Kissimmee, and Sanford. Just search online or call the local paper to discover the closest one to you! Have fun!
